Last Post: 'Jack' Garrett, Telecoms Engineer


GARRETT, John "Jack" Amherst, NS. The death of John "Jack" Garrett, age 79, of Amherst and formerly of Ottawa, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, October 15, 2009.

Born in Salisbury, NB, he was the son of the late Walter and Lulu (Martin) Garrett. A Telecommunications Engineer, he worked with the RCMP in NB and Ottawa for 25 years, retiring in 1990. A ham radio operator his call sign VE1 JK has now gone "Silent Key".

He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Taylor). Jack's remains have been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (902-667-8777). A time of visitation and remembrance will be held at the Furlong Jones Chapel, Church Street, Amherst, NS on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 1 to 3 pm.
