'Friends Not Forgotten'

Following a brief and courageous battle with leukemia, A.A. (Ed) Spaans passed with his devoted wife Jane by his side on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the University of Alberta Hospital.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, including: his children Shireen (Leo), Sharla (Tom), John (Sarah), and Kevin; his brothers Peter (Cobie) and Bill (Mieke); his sisters Wilma (Neil) and Helen (Pete); and seven grandchildren.

Ed will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his passion for activity, and his dedication to the things he loved. He was a proud member of the RCMP for thirty-nine years and the Appeals Commission for nine years.

A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, May 22 at 11:00 am at Christ Community Church in St. Albert. Ed’s family would like to remind everyone of the importance of donating blood and wish to extend to the wonderful doctors and nurses at 5F4 and the GSICU our gratitude for their kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the University Hospital Foundation.
