Assistant Commissioner Richie McLean Allan

'Friends Not Forgotten'
Obituary

After a long and honourable life, Ritchie passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital, with his beloved wife Lucille at his side. Born and raised on a Saskatchewan farm, Ritchie knew the hardships of the Depression dustbowl years.

An excellent student, he left the farm to join the RCMP in 1940, serving first in Toronto and then in rural Alberta, where he and Lu married in 1948. After a transfer to Ottawa HQ in 1955, his administrative abilities drew recognition. He was commissioned in 1959 and held progressively more senior positions and rank, retiring as Assistant Commissioner in 1975.

He and Lu then moved to Regina, where he joined the administrative staff of Canadian Bible College. They retired to White Rock, B.C. in 1981, and moved back to Ottawa in 1993 to be closer to family.

Ritchie brought a high degree of discipline and organization to everything he did. He enjoyed studying and teaching the Bible, serving the church, listening to music, walking, watching TV sports, and playing Scrabble and pool.

There will be a big hole now at our lively family dinners and times at the cottage, and he will be missed dearly by Lu; his son Norman Allan and wife Diane Nymark; his daughter Joan Gregorich, her husband Ed, and their sons Ethan, Adrian, and Gabriel; and by Jennie Allan, widow of his younger son David.

We thank the staff of the nephrology units at the Riverside and General Hospitals. Their friendly, competent care helped keep Ritchie going and eased his way at the end.

To God be the glory. The funeral will be held Thursday, May 17, 3 p.m., at Cedarview Alliance Church, 2784 Cedarview Rd., Ottawa, reception following. Private burial.

Donations to the Canadian Bible Society, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
