In Memory of A Very Generous Person
Reg.#30106, Constable D. Bruce Denniston

'Friends Not Forgotten'

In modern times, the reputation and spirit of generousity by Constable Bruce Denniston and Reg.#32665 John Hanson is extremely well known within the RCMP as well as within the Canadian medical community. For, the Canadian Bone Marrow Registry bears their name. The Annual 'Bruce & John Fund' for bone marrow transplant raises huge and necessary funds in their memory.

Constable Denniston was born in 1952. He joined the RCMP in 1972 and he was transferred to Alberta, Ottawa and British Columbia. He became ill while serving with the Force in Powell River, BC at which time he and many of his police friends identified a great need for bone marrow. The Bruce and John Bone Marrow Registry was born.

For the years he was in the Force, Bruce Denniston was always identified as a leader with a huge heart of generousity for others. It comes as no surprise that his heart was firmly determined to help other Canadians even though he knew from friends that he would not survive.

I can recall the day Bruce Denniston died in Vancouver, BC. It was February 12, 1989. He left a lonely gap in the Force. He was the kind of RCMP Constable one never forgets.

Bruce's last wish was fulfilled. He wanted to be buried in Powell River, BC. He rests there.
