In Memory of O.170, Inspector George Wallace Currier

In Memory of O.170, Inspector George Wallace Currier

'FRIENDS NOT FORGOTTEN'

Reg.#1943, G. W. Currier joined the Force in 1887. He was promoted through the ranks to Sergeant Major. At one point, for reasons unclear, yet at his own request, Currier reverted from Sergeant Major to Staff Sergeant. He received his Commission in 1912.

Prior to the Force, he had three years previous service in the 43rd Btt'n of the Ottawa and Carleton Rifles, Ottawa, ON.

On July 16, 1895, George Currier was an eye witness to a frightening incident at Battleford, SK which was caused by the weather.

On that date, Battleford was the scene of a severe thrunderstorm. At one moment, a bolt of lightning struck the QM Stores and passed into the canteen killing the dog at the feet of George Currier. From the canteen, the lightening then passed into Reg.#2606 McPhail's room tearing his blanket and partially melting the barrel of his carbine!

Over the years, Inspector Currier was posted to 'K' Div., the 'Depot' Band and 'F' Div. He served until 1924.

Inspector Currier died in 1938. He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, BC.

Contributors and Appreciation: Vet. Jack White for the story line and
'E' Div. Vet Don Klancher for the snap of Inspector Currier.
