In Memory of NWMP Reg.#335, Constable Marmaduke Graburn

In Memory of NWMP Reg.#335, Constable Marmaduke Graburn

'Friends Not Forgotten'

The photo above was taken in the 1970's by my Troopmate, Reg.#23690, Ken Harrack. Thank you, Pit Partner!

The Province of Alberta sign says: 'Murder of Constable Graburn'

'Constable Marmaduke Graburn,, N. W. M. P. was ambushed and shot near Fort Walsh by an Indian, November 17, 1879, six years after the [F]orce had been organized. He was the first of the few Mounted Policemen who died violently while bringing law and order to the West.

That more were not killed is indicative of the respect which the handful of red-coats commanded from Indian and white alike.

South of here in the Provincial Park an Albert Government cairn gives the murder details.'
